Executive Director Job Description


summary:

Founded in 1986 as the Business & Industry Council and later renamed the Granville

Education Foundation, the mission of the organization is to enhance student

performance by providing resources and enrichment programs in partnership with the

community and Granville County Schools. We do this by focusing on initiatives in

literacy, technology, cultural arts and grants for creative teaching projects. The

Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization.


reporting:

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors through the Executive

Committee of the Board of Directors.


board:

Support the development and strengthening of the Board including assisting with

member recruitment, strategic planning and program evaluation.

• serve as an ex officio member of the Board and its administrative committees

• work with each committee on long-range planning and core strategies for achieving

goals

• assist the Executive Committee in identifying, interviewing, recruiting and orienting

prospective new members for the Board and in monitoring Board performance

• assist the Board of Directors in carrying out the fundraising plan for the Granville

Education Foundationʼs budget


programs:

Provide supervision and direction related to the Foundationʼs school programs

and activities

• work with each committee on its goals for the program year and steps to achieving

those goals

• work with Granville County Schools staff to implement the school programs of the

Foundation

• communicate to the Executive Committee the effectiveness of the school programs

and the impact they make on student achievement


administration:

Supervise office operations and direct all administrative functions

• approve all vouchers for expenditures within limits established by the Board and

budgeted

• enter into contracts, leases or purchase agreements within limits established by Board

policy with vendors for equipment, supplies and services

• procure insurance to cover all liabilities as an employer, service provider and grantor,

as well as coverage for our own office and staff health allowance

• review program reports

• manage physical facilities


financial:

Prepare annual organizational budget for approval by the Board and oversee the

disbursement of funds

• assist the Executive Committee in the development of individual program budgets

• supervise gathering of financial data and send to outside payroll

• assist Treasurer in preparation of financial reports for Board of Directors and oversee

banking procedures and cash flow

• contract for annual audit by outside auditing firm

• provide information for outside auditing firm to prepare reports to local, state and

federal agencies


development:

Oversee financial development of the Granville Education Foundation and its

programs

• prepare development plan with Board fundraising committees

• oversee Annual Giving Campaign and related developmental activities in support of

the Foundationʼs operating budget

• develop donor prospect lists and manage same

• seek grant opportunities, write grant proposals, visit potential major donors and

institutional funders soliciting major gifts for the Foundation and its programs

• correspond with all donors and oversee receipting of all contributions


public relations:

Serve as the Foundationʼs representative in various public functions

• serve as the primary spokesman for the Granville Education Foundation

• represent the Foundation in various media forums through interview and news

releases

• share the Foundationʼs mission and vision through public appearances and local civic

and social functions that attract individuals considered to be leaders

• create and distribute a newsletter periodically to supporters and prospective

supporters of the organization


QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in face-to-face cultivation and solicitation a must. Excellent communication,

computer proficiency and organizational skills required. Must be able to work well under

pressure, manage and prioritize multiple tasks and have a flexible scheduled. The

Executive Director must exhibit the ability to communicate the mission and vision of the

Granville Education Foundation in a bold, passionate and compelling manner.

Experience in managing volunteers and the ability to engage a wide range of

community members. Bachelorʼs Degree required. Must be able to lift approximately 25

pounds, have a valid driverʼs license and access to a vehicle.
