Granville County Chamber of Commerce Member Spotlight: Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home

Celebrating Over a Century of Dedicated Service to the Oxford Community
The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home as our November Member Spotlight. With over a century of service, this historic institution has supported families through life’s most challenging moments with compassion, respect, and personalized care.
Founded in 1905 as Upchurch & Currin Funeral Home, Gentry-Newell & Vaughan has grown and evolved under the leadership of notable figures, including Johnny Perkinson, Melvin Currin, Stuart Vaughan, and John Newell. In 1962, the firm moved to its current location, a stunning Greek Revival residence on College Street in Oxford, originally built in 1903. Following a significant historic restoration in 2016, the building blends its original elegance with modern amenities, ensuring it meets the community’s evolving needs.

At Gentry-Newell & Vaughan, the focus is on celebrating life while supporting families through their grief journey. Their offerings include:

  • Veteran Services: Special tributes to honor those who have served our country.
  • Grief Support Resources: Tools and guidance to help families find healing and peace.
  • Pre-Need Planning: Enabling individuals to design their own life celebration while relieving loved ones of financial and emotional burdens.
